However, when it comes to communicating in any kind of relationship, be it with parents, a partner, or anyone else, society sometimes falls short and forgets that it’s not merely a skill; it’s a necessity. How, you ask? Let’s see it through.

While working, we can easily praise someone to get the best out of them by saying things like, “Keep it up” or “That’s a great idea.” But when it comes to using such praise in more personal relationships, we often hesitate.

For instance, imagine a child creating a beautiful drawing of their parents at school. When they excitedly show it to their parents, the response is a dry, indifferent “That’s okay” or simply “Good.” Even if parents do offer praise, it’s often followed by a comment like, “But also focus on your studies.”

This is where the bridge between parents and children begins to build up—a communication gap. The child, eager to satisfy the parents, may choose not to share their true passions and dreams. Meanwhile, the parents might assume everything is fine, unaware that their child is quietly bearing a burden they could never imagine.

The unsaid words!

Even in relationships between partners, communication plays a crucial role. There are times when one might wish for the other to understand everything without needing to say it from the very beginning. However, I find this expectation to be quite unrealistic. To make someone understand, you must express yourself.

Even if your partner understands you without you saying a word, it’s often because they have observed you closely from the start. You may have shared things early on that no longer require constant reminders.

What may seem like a small matter often grows into something much bigger, eventually leading to conflicts that can turn the relationship toxic or, in the worst cases, even bring it to an end.

The right approach…communicating emotions!

Having a rich vocabulary and the perfect choice of words in any language doesn’t define communication. True communication lies in how one addresses the matter—how genuinely they express their thoughts and emotions. No relationship sails smoothly forever; there are always waves to be faced somewhere along the ocean’s vastness. But to navigate through those storms, communication is the compass that guides us back to calm waters.

Communication is a necessity, not a skill. It’s the lifeline that holds relationships together, not through polished words but through honest conversations. And until we start embracing that truth, all the eloquence in the world will be nothing but empty noise.

Content Credits: Manas Joshi (manasjoshi108@gmail.com)

Today’s world, advancing at such speed, views communication as a skill—whether it’s engaging with clients in a company or impressing someone.
