Imagine yourself listening to a musical composition, filled with beautiful sounds altogether rhyming perfectly to create a mystical aura. The tone is melodious and the nuances are subtly balanced. Everything is in order, the experience is splendid and in that very moment, you are just absolutely at peace.
Another few seconds and it occurs to you that you must share this experience. Be it to express to a friend the beauty of what you are just experiencing or the need to make all aware of how beautiful you have it; reasons vary, but the urge to share grows.
Soon your mind begins to drift away from the music and wanders into the notion of sharing. How should I post this music note? Shall I pick a portion or should it be the entire composition? What about captions? Do I share only with my private circle or let it out there for public view? Will the listeners understand what I am trying to say with this composition? Shall I make it simple and add a note detailing my emotions?
Only a few moments earlier, the experience which was calming your senses, is now adding to the chaos in you.
How did it happen?
Chaos or disorder and confusion have always existed. Nature has been chaotic and every once in a while, even the gods seem to love disruption. Humans on the other hand used to crave order; we liked the ordinary. We wanted stability, we preferred harmony! Be it in the blissful sounds of kids laughing together or amidst high pitched concerts, the heart knew how to find the precious silence. We didn’t really had to get away from the noise to find stillness and calm.
Things however changed with time and advancement. We moved into nuclear families, drifted to far away countries and continents and gained much more control over the outside noises. But despite all this, contrary to expectations, the outside isolation did not lead to inner silence. The stillness that used to reside inside is now simply evasive.
The chaos of life has over powered us and we meekly are following the rules laid upon us by technology. We’ve given in to the tantrums of this modern world by getting addicted to the state of mayhem. While watching a decent show, we are checking and writing emails / messages, playing a game on the mobile, wondering about the dinner plans and are yet bored. Even a day without chaos seems insufferable and so is our addiction to chaos!
Try this…
If you are brave enough, try and set aside an hour without any screens or artificial sounds. Instead of juggling between different channels or music stations or gaming consoles or social media platforms, just give in to nothing.
It wouldn’t be easy, in fact only in a few minutes your addictions will lure you. Your mind, which is now a slave to the stated chaos, will force you to think that this isolation from screens, from the outside world, will lead to a complete disaster and thus will tempt you to just perhaps check a few notifications. If possible, stay strong …
But why? Why is it so important to feel the silence??
Silence is the strongest bridge leading to inner peace. The ability to communicate with yourself resides within the quiet.
